Samsung Latest Company Banning AI...
Samsung has recently joined the list of companies that have prohibited their employees from utilizing generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Google Bard. The tech giant cautioned its workers that they may face termination if caught using these tools. This decision was made after an engineer leaked sensitive internal source code by uploading it to ChatGPT last month. According to earlier reports, some Samsung employees used the chatbot to verify sensitive database source code for errors and to generate minutes from a recorded meeting.
Other companies have also cracked down on the use of ChatGPT. JPMorgan has limited its use among employees due to compliance concerns, and Amazon has encouraged staff not to share code with the AI chatbot. Verizon and Accenture have also implemented similar measures. In addition, Italy briefly banned ChatGPT last month due to concerns that the service breached EU data protection laws.
Microsoft, which has a significant investment in ChatGPT owner OpenAI, is also apprehensive. According to a recent report, Microsoft's Azure cloud server unit plans to offer an alternative version of ChatGPT that operates on dedicated cloud servers, where the data will be kept separate from other customers' data.
The concerns surrounding generative AI tools like ChatGPT are not unfounded. They pose a risk of data breaches, and attackers could use them to write convincing phishing emails and malicious code. These risks have already materialized, as OpenAI acknowledged in March that ChatGPT had experienced its first major data breach, which exposed the personal and partial payment information of ChatGPT Plus subscribers.
