Intel Releases Security Patch for Most Modern CPUs...
Intel has released a new CPU microcode update for PCs with Intel processors. The update was unexpectedly released and covers a wide range of Intel processors dating back to 2017. The secretive and sudden nature of the release has raised concerns. However, users don't need to manually download and install the update as it will be included in future updates from motherboard vendors and Microsoft. The release deviates from Intel's usual practice of announcing vulnerability information on "Patch Tuesday." Intel stated that the update does not contain any security fixes and is only intended for functional updates. While the exact details of the update are unknown, it appears to be unrelated to the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities of 2018.
