Brave Browser Forgetful Mode...
The Brave browser has introduced a new security feature called "Forgetful Browsing" in its latest desktop and Android versions. This feature automatically logs users out of websites when they close the tab or the browser, providing a more granular security setting than simply clearing history and cookies. It primarily focuses on first-party tracking by websites themselves, rather than third-party tracking used by advertisers and other entities. By enabling Forgetful Browsing in the browser's settings, local storage for specific sites, including cookies, cache, and DNS cache, is cleared either upon browser closure or a few seconds after closing the last tab with the site open. Unlike most of Brave's security tools, this setting applies to individual sites rather than domains, making it a more wide-reaching option.
The purpose of Forgetful Browsing is to address concerns related to easy re-identification, which is often exploited by metered paywalls and browsing profiles shared with other sites and advertisers. For instance, users may not want a website to know that they have multiple profiles accessed from the same device. While applying the Forgetful Browsing feature universally may not offer much additional usefulness compared to clearing all local data when the browser closes, using it on a site-by-site basis can greatly benefit users who prioritize maintaining their browsing privacy.
