PC Memory Gets Safer...
JEDEC has announced the new DDR5 memory standard, boosting speeds up to 8800Mbps from DDR5-6800. This upgrade requires support from memory and processor vendors, and modules need manufacturing and testing. The specification, JESD79-5C, includes Per-Row Activation Counting (PRAC), designed to counteract memory attacks like Rowhammer. PRAC detects excessive memory activations and pauses traffic to apply mitigative measures, potentially safeguarding against data leaks. This enhancement could enhance cloud data security, although Rowhammer attacks are not commonly encountered by PC users.
