Global IT issues…
Days after a faulty update took down about 8.5 million Windows computers, cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has explained the issue. A bug in their validation systems allowed problematic data to bypass checks, leading to an out-of-bounds memory read and a Windows crash (BSOD). The update, tested in March and deployed on July 19, affected companies using CrowdStrike’s services with certain Windows versions. This caused widespread disruptions, including flight delays, payment issues, and government service interruptions. Delta Air Lines is still struggling, prompting a federal investigation. The update aimed to enhance data collection on novel threats but is now on CrowdStrike’s “known-bad list” to prevent future issues.
