MoviePass is Back...

MoviePass, the movie theater subscription service, has relaunched with a new points-based system. For $10 per month, subscribers can watch one to three movies at any of the 4,000 participating theaters across the US. MoviePass offers higher-priced plans as well, including a $20/month Standard plan for three to seven movies, a $30/month Premium plan for five to 11 movies, and a $40/month Pro plan for up to 30 movies. Each plan offers a different number of credits that can be redeemed for movies, with the Pro plan offering the most credits.

The cost of credits can vary depending on factors such as the time and day of the movie, and customers have reported fluctuations in credit costs. Unused credits can be rolled over to the next month, allowing a maximum of two months' worth of credits in the account. Subscribers receive a MoviePass card to be used at supported theaters.

MoviePass initially gained popularity in 2017 by offering unlimited movies for $9.95 per month but faced financial difficulties and bankruptcy. The service's co-founder, Stacy Spikes, relaunched MoviePass in 2022 and has been gradually adding users to the waitlist. MoviePass is accepted at major theater chains like AMC, Cinemark, and Regency, and aims to support the movie theater industry during the critical summer season.

Compared to other subscription plans like AMC Stubs A-List and Regal Unlimited, MoviePass offers a cheaper starting price and is available at a wider variety of theaters. However, it lacks additional perks such as free popcorn and concessions discounts.
