New Study by BackBlaze About Backup...
A recent study by Backblaze, a cloud storage and backup service, has revealed that failed hard drives have an average lifespan of two and a half years, which corroborates findings from another storage recovery service. Backblaze analyzed data from 17,155 failed drives and found that the average age of failure was less than three years. The study also shows that smaller drives tend to last longer than larger ones, although the company warns against making assumptions about capacity influencing potential lifespan. Backing up data is recommended using the 3-2-1 approach, which means having three copies of data on at least two different forms of media with one copy stored off-site.
